Under the Policy Support Programs instrument, the academic community provides expertise to the Directorate General for Development Cooperation in order to strengthen its strategic role and decision-making.
In a win-win approach, this instrument strengthens the capacities of academic institutions and increases their relevance and impact in society.
This instrument aims to mutually strengthen the capacities of, on the one hand, the administration (Directorate-General for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid - DGD), to meet the needs for expertise and policy support, and, on the other hand, researchers and their institutions, in order to develop their expertise and strengthen teams through research on specific topics of interest to development cooperation.
Modalities
For the period 2023-2027, three thematic areas have been identified:
- Climate and environment
- Fragility and resilience
- Social protection, inequality, and inclusive growth.
The research carried out by the academic world aims to improve strategic decision-making on the programming and financing of Belgian development cooperation actions, improve political dialogue and the strategic positioning of the DGD in bilateral and international forums, and facilitate better implementation of related concepts, methods, and tools in their local context.
